Terms of Service

Socratic Chess fetches your public chess.com games, analyzes them with a chess engine, and offers AI-generated coaching you can ask questions of. It is provided for educational and entertainment purposes.

Accounts are free and passwordless — you sign in with a one-time email link or with Google. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your email or Google account secure. Provide accurate information and use one account per person.

You agree not to:

• use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
• abuse, overload, or disrupt the service — including excessive or automated requests, or circumventing rate limits or the free-tier limit;
• attempt to access data belonging to other users or to our systems;
• reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the service;
• misuse the AI coach to generate harmful, deceptive, or abusive content.

Analysis and coaching are generated automatically by a chess engine and a large language model. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or wrong, and are provided for educational purposes only — not professional, financial, or other advice. Use your own judgment and verify anything important.

Game data comes from the chess.compublic API. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by chess.com, and your use of their data is subject to chess.com’s terms. Sign-in and AI features rely on Google; your use of those features is also subject to Google’s terms.

The service, including its design, text, and software, is owned by us or our licensors. Chess game data and related content belong to their respective owners. You may use the service for personal, non-commercial purposes only.

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may change, suspend, interrupt, or discontinue any part of it at any time, with or without notice.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service.

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the service or other users.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
